Did we get massive tax savings for having a baby?
Not really...
The only things we qualified for when filing our 2015 taxes were:
- an additional $4000 exemption. Coming out of the 25% bracket, that saved us $1000
- Child Tax Credit of $150
For 2016, we will get a bit more. Since he is in daycare, we will get some level of deduction from a combination of an FSA and the Child and Dependent Care Credit. I haven't run the numbers to see the exact amount yet.
